Much confusion because both sides play bait and switch. There is a biological and a political definition...in Europe in small country w no immigration I am not "white" but I become that in the colonies. Putin isn't "white" in any significant way, doesn't think of self this way
"White" was just a shorthand for "American"; it's an inclusive category that transcends ethnicities of Europe. Forged on frontier where was defined by enemy groups who would or could not assimilate to Americanity.
