I wanted to like the Joker just because of this, but I thought was bad. Message of movie: "mo money for dem programs." Yes I'm able to look beyond politics of a movie, but not when it beats you over the head with moral lesson, including the joker himself in his climax speech

Still haven't seen it, but my read on the Joker is that, as an embodiment of all the general unrest floating around, it makes blue check-types nervous—so they work to condemn it with the tried-and-true lines about incels, racists, mass shooters, etc

Whatever was good in the Joker was canceled out by the mental health industry trash in it and the general humorlessness. It's a one-note self-important movie; whatever's good about it was done better in e.g. Nightcrawler or any of Polanski movies

The attitude in particular RE "mental illness" in Joker was that of a social worker, not of an artist trying to get inside mind of such man. Real depiction would make madness infectious, but this movie has the Joker HIMSELF take an outsider's position to his own "condition"
