Hazony is making basic old point: Locke, Hobbes and possibly others like Kant, Spinoza and Rousseau (who he misreads) wanted to found political life on reason "available to all at all times". This meant abandoning what Hazony calls "particular traditions" based on religion.

Hazony claims this is impossible because reason can't offer a stable foundation for political life; it can come to "any conclusion." He uses a long quote by Selden to illustrate... In so doing Hazony is saying (like Rousseau) that political life requires a religious foundation

In focusing on religion as the real opposition to universal reason (and therefore presumably to globalism) Hazony is contriving a false equivalence between "tradition" "particular" and "faith"; he's claiming that nationalism is particular and therefore (?) necessarily religious.
