I wouldn't go so far, but since at least 1933 (and arguably earlier to WWI) the West hasn't had what can be called capitalism. It did have capitalism throughout 19th C in England, America and a few other places.

Another paradox: "liberal democracies" (which in 2019 are neither liberal nor democratic) in our day are one of the least transparent regime forms. By contrast dictatorships like Russia or Singapore are more or less transparent, everyone knows who is responsible for the decision.
Fantasies of establishmentarians and "moderate" anti-nationalists are as deranged now in press as you'd find on anon forums a few years ago. Deranged visions of America, Europe, etc. as empires. But in our time only small states--Singapore, Swiss, NZ etc. doing well

I will be poasting figures and GRAPHS that prove this, but in our day the only state success stories are "small and efficient." While large states falter, their ideologues (as well as some "extreemists") push ever more untimely fantasies of universal empire

There is neither the spiritual desire for empire now, nor the ideological justification for it (something like Christianity; its inheritor the Kantian human rights regime can't command respect, etc.), and especially not the physical prerequisites for it...

Large national states with big populations (not to even speak of empires) existed for one reason, self-defense...and need/superiority of huge cannon-fodder armies to smaller states. No reason for them to exist outside of that. Success stories of future: NZ, Iceland, etc.

Even a state like Japan has no need of 120 million inhabitants crowding the island anymore...it will over time itself transition into a "small nation," there is no need for such huge populations outside of 20th C mass levy warfare. Age of empires is over for foreseeable future

"No one born after 1914 knows what liberty means" -Hayek (not Selma)
The question that has conservatism divided is how to respond when you seek the politics of liberty and the sociology of virtue, and get the politics of corporate power and the sociology of anomie instead.

Counterpoint: capitalism doesn't exist in the West and hasn't since at least 1933 when three competing socialisms started fight for the world
Capitalism in the 19th century stood in contrast to agrarian society and the ancien regime. In the 20th century, it stood in contrast to Communism. It lacks a defining point of contrast today—the only competing system, Chinese-style managerialism, is itself labeled capitalist.
