I like him, but despite some of his pomo game-playing...he's saved by the mood he masters and by the visual aspects

Intelleckshuals will look down on this. They also look down on

Exactly. Look at a great visual artist like Frank Frazetta as a modern example. The guy never really spoke about politics or what intellectuals were talking about. Let his art speak for itself: Epic. Heroic. Action.

not sure this is opposite to what I'm saying; there are other forms of "engagement" than to address the nonsense of modern intellectuals

Not crazy about Rand as an artist at all...but Rush (Limbaugh?) I find to be a very good populist performer on the radio...and there are a few other very good radio performers (Savage, Jones, Hendrie)

oh Wagner and Tolstoy were influenced by Schopenhauer and created great art? Guess what we don't have Schopenhauers in our time, and not since 1900. Ignore intelleckshuals of your time and their ideas if you want to write or make good art

I don’t think Kants critique of reason led to sterility, nor do I think it was a mistake

he was arguably a philosopher, not an intellectual and in any case I'm talking about the 20th C and now, not before 1900

One of biggest mistake any writer or artist makes is to "address" in any way "debates," concerns or ideas of intellectuals in his time, or who he happens to be around. It's a big reason for much of sterility of almost all the arts since around 1950
