Of course saying otherwise would end his career; he's holding on to a hope that promise of meritocracy can continue to serve as protection myth for both his job and for Amerikwa regime. Impossible because, first:

The Ibram Kendis are clearer minded or more honest than him. They know mathematical talent isn't and will never be equally distributed among all groups and is practically nonexistent in theirs; and they know they can get ahead without it, simply by agitation and political purity

Second, the myth of meritocracy--"anyone could be a gifted mathematician/scientist etc., will be rewarded with highest honors"--is false in USA now even aside from the Kendis. Large swathes of the American intelligentsia, not to speak of political class, are undeserving morons

This has been the case since the 2000's at least, even in the sciences, and sometimes even in e.g. Microsoft labs outside academia. Political rectitude, often serving as cover for ethnic, financial and other social nepotistic networks, replaced merit. Consider e.g. Theranos

But Theranos isn't an exception. Morons with no accomplishments or new ideas have been systematically elevated the last 20-30 years (at least); all of establishment conservative media as you know runs on nepotism, but it's same even in science departments...

This isn't to say a genius-level scientist who works hard can't get a job, but conditions much more unfavorable than natural; often have to teach at foreign universities. Have known two who solved decades-long open problems, had to struggle to get stable jobs...meanwhile (contd.)

People who were not especially bright and had no achievements, who worked on e.g. "airport logistics" as mathematics (?), got tenured positions at top places merely because of their race or social networking/political orthodoxy. Meritocracy in America is long dead...

I don't think meritocracy of the type that existed in 1947-80 USA/Soviet Union (geared toward scientific/military competition) can be reestablished in America based either on "classical liberal" myths of individualism, nor even if "HBD" and IQ truth is adopted by ruling class

So-called "cancel culture" ofc precedes Trump, which many would like you to forget. I encourage, if you find yourself in this situation, to sue, to sue the school and any journalist who does this, to report to every relevant govt. bureaucracy, etc.; Americans must wake up!
