In most systems of govt in world history the events of Nov 3-10 would have led to a "change in affairs"; in fact in supposed banana republics, a blatant and undisguised steal on this level is not tolerated by the people or the military (see, e.g., Burma; thank)
Reminder: in most systems of government in world history, January 7 would have dawned with the heads of Donald Trump and the rioters mounted on pikes around the Capitol as a warning to others for all time. A purely legislative process of accountability is a pretty mild response.

Almost never bought my own dinner in Tokyo. This wasn't why I did it but whenever I talk Mishima or other things from Japanese history, the Japanese in izakaya would get so excited they insisted on buying me dinner. They also walk for blocks with me to show me directions
I've lived in Japan, Korea and China for decades. Ordinary East Asians are kind and welcoming.
Local elites are another matter. I would say they simply back policies that favor their own kind.
It is Western elites who hate their own people, since they now do quite the opposite.
