Despite color revolutions in Georgia etc., Putin has been able since 2000 to invade and humiliate Georgia, take Ukraine back for a time, kick USA out of Syria, take Crimea and divide EU from USA (temporarily, but still) and hit far beyond Russia economic and military weight.

No you're wrong. Some Jurchen were nomads; and Manchu were descended from them, which you didn't seem to know. But as you might remember Chyna was repeatedly conquered by various numerically smaller steppe nomads, so that Ming was the only native dynasty. Isn't that odd?
