Strauss first success was with Catholic conservatives in the 1950's/60s and I believe he was used for that purpose. Both he and MacIntyre were used to modulate/channel message of right and left wing Catholic intellectuals in a way that would not ultimately channel levers of power

True they don't need to be worthless, but what's going on right now and for the last few decades has been a series of successful co-opt ops of any real resistance to authority...and they play particularly on narcissistic individuals' desire for "eminence" and ideological purity.

Just one example now, will elaborate later. It's clear Ross Douthat is meant to be the replacement for William F. Buckley (a CIA asset). *Someone* must fill this role for them: "This is the girl." You just need to look at Douthat's background to see what "Deep State" means
